3D-Printed Work-Smarter Trophy x
Makers' Academy, 2020

Ideations and processess.
First 3D-Printed trophy.
I was assigned the task of designing a trophy for the Work Smarter Initiative for Ngee Ann Polytechnic. This initiative champions a future-ready campus ethos - Empowering digitally-enabled and innovative staff members, primed for the future economy.
The design had to meet the following constraints:
1) It needed to be 3D-printed within 3 hours.
2) It should be 3D-printed without or with minimal supports.
3) No post-processing allowed.
4) It had to be printed as one piece without assembly.
5) It had to feature a light bulb motif.
I designed the light bulb motif in 2D instead of 3D. This allowed more freedom in designs while reducing the printing time. The motif has a debossed effect and embossed text on the curved surface, deviating from the traditional trophy look. This allows light to pass through, creating a lit-up effect similar to a light bulb.
To further reduce the printing time, I considered the trophy's height, thickness, and the use of surfaces. These design considerations optimizes the printing process thus reducing the production time.
